Art Deco Deck of Playing Cards
DATE
Spring 2024
PROJECT OVERVIEW
At the beginning of the semester, I began brainstorming theme ideas for my respective deck of cards. I began with writing a few notes detailing my theme:
My vision for my playing cards will be showcasing the art deco style. That influence will be shown with sharp geometric shapes and a color palette that utilizes gold alongside other colors from the era. The face cards will be inspired by Erté.
Throughout the course of three months I designed backs of cards, number cards, face cards, and joker cards.

The metallic color palette of the deck draws inspiration from the Industrial Revolution, reflecting its bold, mechanical aesthetic and transformative energy. The character design is rooted in era-specific personas, with the Queen embodying the spirit and flair of the flapper, the King representing a wealthy gentleman, and the Jack taking on the role of a waiter who serves their world. While maintaining the traditional structure of the Joker, I reimagined it through the same metallic palette and incorporated stylistic elements inspired by Erté, adding a cohesive Art Deco elegance to the overall design.
